Berries Are Beneficial For Oral Health
Berries are a delicious treat, and one that we don’t have to feel guilty about eating. In fact, studies now show that eating blackberries may play a role in preventing and treating gum disease. It has been previously shown that natural blackberry extract is also associated with blocking the spread of cancer cells. Blackberries have higher antioxidant capacity than blueberries, raspberry, red currant and strawberries. But don’t toss the other berries out the window; strawberries and green vegetables have also been shown to reduce the chance of oral cancer.
Fish Fights For Oral Health
Fish oil is one of those foods that we keep finding health benefits from. In addition to its other health benefits, studies have shown that fish oil and fish can help fight gum disease. It’s easy to include these in your diet with fish oil supplements, or better yet, with the inclusion of fish in your diet a few times a week.
Hygiene Is Still Necessary
If left untreated gum disease can result in tooth loss, so it’s important to make sure that if you have any of the signs or symptoms of oral disease, you see your periodontist quickly, and follow the treatment plan outlined by your periodontist. Implementing a diet rich in vitamins and minerals is important for any health concern. Eating these foods will not replace the need for regular and thorough oral hygiene, but they may add to the effectiveness of good oral hygiene.
